chinese new year is round the corner...gong xi fa cai...

posted by Justin D. Pereira

All right man, chinese new celebrations is tomorrow in schools. Hurrah! Time have certainly passed by in a blink of an eye. Just like yesterday when it was the new year. Then, I settled in a JC, and now this...

Just got the sad news, a few of my JC class friends will be leaving us if their application to other education institutions are successful. Good luck to all of them :) Hope one day in the future, we will all be able to hang out once again! Haha, hope next week's steamboat outing is still on, it may be the last that we have as a class...

Still not to fret, Chinese New Year is just this Sunday and it is one time where all spirits should be up. I don't mean spirits as in spirits, but spirits as in morale...get it...Can't wait for the red packets, good food, family, everything...Its out with the old year, and in with the new one.

Yesterday's Sentosa outing was very entertaining...for them that is. Somehow, I managed to claim the top spot of being lame yesterday, and sadly to say, this is one characteristic of me that they found out waaay too early. I wouldn't want them to know, because,...well nvm...just ask my sec sch friends....lol. So this is a far far idea from me being "FIERCE". Am I fierce ? I don't think I'm fierce. Perhaps a little rigid, but not fierce as in INTIMIDATING...imagine that....All of us got a suntan yesterday with a few gals getting the burns. Of course, only 2 guys ( Wei Jie and Me ) amongst all the girls ( 5 of them )...hooo hots...just joking...hmmm this is a statement that is hard to make....lol...

Really hope that we can go to Sentosa as a class again...

Sigh, Valentine's Day is over, and there are so many things I would like to say, but no opportunity. Do I dare say it to her....? Mysterious ;)

Oh yeah, I just found out, if you peel open the entrance ticket for Sentosa, you will find a small tiny square chip, just the size of a small tiny square..serious... :)

are they tracking us...?

Last final day of sembawang secondary school...for me

posted by Justin D. Pereira

Time have passed by so quickly. Seems just yesterday when I first stepped into Sembawang Secondary School. Remembered my first camp of my entire life, and it was the Secondary 1 orientation camp. Haha, I was in class 1E4 and needless to say we bonded very well. If I dont remember wrongly, Ding Xiang, the first head prefect of Sembawang was my class leader. Hehe, little was I to know that I would end up in his position 2 years later, but under a different organisation, the Student Council.

Have to really thank the teachers in the school who have made it possible for me to achieve so much in life. They have given me opportunities which I believe would not be possible if I went somewhere else. The leadership camps were numerous, the exposure to all walks of life was really diverse. This myriad of people whom I have grown with for the past 4 years, are the closest to me.

Having been the camp commandants for 2 camps, the secondary 1 orientation camp 2006 and Cohesion @ Sembawang, it really has been an eye opener for me. I can honestly say that the planning which the camp executives do is certainly no easy task, and it is only with passion, determination to make a success out of the camp will it happen.

Now, it is over. The 4 beautiful years which i have spent in secondary school was where the true bonds of friendship really took place. Not to say that those in primary school were not there, but it is when we are in secondary school and during our period of growing up together, achieving goals previously thought not possible, that happens during that time in life.

Years pass, and people change. But one thing remains the same, and that is the bonds of friendship....

am i satisfied with my results ?....

posted by Justin D. Pereira

Generally speaking, I am satisfied. But I knew I could have done better especially for both my English and Lit receiving b3s. Additional Maths was the same with me making a stupid careless mistake in binomial series, costing me 8 marks. Sometimes, all i feel is that these examinations are just worthless competitions in life. It only shows the greedy and jealous side of human nature.

For instance, during normal lessons, my results for english would normally be above average. However, since my Os has only received a B3 for english, people have started saying that my english teacher was biased. If it were true, then i have nothing to say. However, i know it is not true and that fairness was displayed. Nonetheless, that is not the point I am trying to make here. My point is that must humans behave in such a way that they put down another person when his results are already bad enough. You may have gotten an A1 BUT what right does it give you to blatantly accuse another person? Perhaps i have gotten too sensitive over this topic, but scorn is scorn and that is something I am experiencing everyday in life. Whether i know it or not. I am just sad to end this secondary school experience on a not so happy of a note.

The freak of nature....wind

posted by Justin D. Pereira

okay okay, maybe i am a bit harsh on the wind, but it is true. Today, when i went down to play badminton, the wind was blowing its full course and guess what? People were playing as though there was no wind at all, ridiculous. So we tried it as well, everyone else was doing fine with their games but the moment we started to play ( anthony and I ), the wind blew even stronger. After we stopped, the gust gale died down...The best is when we left the court, another group came in and started playing with no wind at wall.

Is nature against us...?

Restaurant Review : Himawari Japanese Restaurant

posted by Justin D. Pereira

Restaurant Name: Himawari Japanese Restaurant ( branch )
Address: 114 Neil Road
Telephone : 64380925
Directions : Outram Park MRT ( walk past the police cantonment complex, turn left and walk straight all the way, opposite Chinatown Plaza )
Style : A la Carte Buffet

Overall Rating : 5 stars
Price : Adult : Weekend ($36.80++)
======================================
Food Review :
Sashimi : A decent variety of fresh sashimi ( salmon, tuna, yellowtail, squid, octopus... ). Excellent flavour where the sashimi leaves a melt-in-the-mouth feeling and texture. I tried the mixed sashimi set where all the fish were delicious and refreshing. The raw squid was slightly translucent, and it was sweet, crunchy and delightful. For the best raw squid sashimi, get those that are almost transparent, that signifies its freshness.

Tempura : I tried the prawn and white fish tempura. The batter was excellent. Crunchy, light yet flavourful, it complemented well with the filling. One of the best which I have tried.

Shabu Shabu : The shabu shabu beef was extremely light yet hearty. Cooked inside a vegetable mixed soup, the thinly sliced meat was tender and smooth. A note about the soup is the refreshing and sumptous taste during the first 30 minutes. However, as the amount of soup decreased and with no refill, the taste became salty but full of vegetable goodness. Personally, I did not like that part.

Others : The restaurant had other dishes on hand, like Agadeshi tofu, Chawanmushi, Potato Crouquette and many more. One particular dish which I favoured was the terriyaki cod. The freshness and silkiness of the cod was unmatched to any of those I have tried. A true skill of the chef who hails from Tokyo. If you go there, you certainly must try it.

If you would like to view the photos and more details such as pricing about the restaurant, click here.

Ratings :
Pricing : Reasonable ( 4/5 )
Ambience : Average ( 3/5 )
Service : Excellent ( 5/5 )
Quality of food : Excellent ( 5/5 )

Overall Rating : 5 stars
